During the Golden State Warriors‘ first-round series against the San Antonio Spurs, a reporter was caught stealing a team jacket belonging to a Warriors employee. The reporter, ABC7’s Mike Shumann, is a former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver, and the jacket belonged to Warriors security manager Ralph Walker.

Security footage of the incident surfaced.

Warriors players were very unhappy with how it all went down.

“Obviously it’s unfortunate,” Draymond Green said. “I think, you know, what it boils down to it, it’s a jacket but I think it’s more so the principle. You’re in your own space and you want to return your jacket, and all of us do and so I think it’s more so the principle than the actual thing.

“Like, you know, if I got a dollar sitting here, it’s a dollar, but it’s my dollar. I wouldn’t expect nobody to take it. That’s an unfortunate situation. We got a great front office and great media PR staff that will figure it all out.”

Shumann Resigns

Reports indicated the Warriors felt the incident would have been handled differently if Shumann weren’t white. In the wake of the situation, the longtime ABC7 reporter has stepped down.

“It is with sadness that I announce that ABC7 news and I have decided to amicably part ways after 24 years together,” he said in a statement. “I regret any embarrassment I have caused the station. My recent actions do not reflect the high standard of conduct expected at KGO. Nor do they represent the integrity with which I have conducted my professional sports and broadcast careers.”

The Warriors moved on to the second round, where they have built an impressive 3-1 lead against the New Orleans Pelicans. Golden State will look to close the series out Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. EST, with the game airing on TNT.
