Royal Rumble Recap: Orton’s Heading to WrestleMania

After a two-hour long Kickoff Show, it’s time for the Royal Rumble to get underway. Every match on the main card is either a championship match, or the Royal Rumble match itself. Charlotte defends the Raw Women’s Championship against Bayley, Kevin Owens faces Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship, Neville challenges Rich Swan for the Cruiserweight Championship, and AJ Styles defends his WWE World Championship against John Cena.

Charlotte (c) vs. Bayley – Raw Women’s Championship
Bayley became the #1 Contender for the Raw Women’s Championship by defeating Nia Jax a few weeks ago on Monday Night Raw. Arguably the best NXT Women’s Champion of all time, Bayley has already picked up two victories over Charlotte. Fortunately for the champion, she is undefeated while competing in title matches on Pay-Per-View.

Charlotte hits Bayley with Natural Selection on the ring apron, and puts the Hugger away to retain the title. With this win, Charlotte extends her Pay-Per-View championship match streak to 16-0. Winner, and STILL Raw Women’s Champion: Charlotte

Predicted Winner: Charlotte (1/1)

Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns – WWE Universal Championship (No Disqualification; Chris Jericho Suspended Above the Ring in a Shark Cage)
Since Triple H screwed Seth Rollins out of the WWE Universal Championship, Kevin Owens has been holding the belt. Every time he defends the belt, Chris Jericho interferes and helps KO retain the title. To prevent Jericho’s interference, Y2J will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage, forcing Owens to face Reigns one-on-one.

Reigns seems to have Owens put away, but Braun Strowman interferes and destroys Reigns. Twice over the past few weeks, Reigns hit Strowman with a spear, and Strowman struck back. Winner, and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens

Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns (1/2)

Rich Swann (c) vs. Neville – WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Rich Swann retained the Cruiserweight Championship at Roadblock: End of the Line, but right after his victory, Neville returned and assaulted him and TJ Perkins. Since Roadblock, Neville has been taking over the entire Cruiserweight Division, including a non-title victory over Rich Swann. While Swann has been a great champion, the self-professed King of the Cruiserweights seems to have his number.

Rich Swann kicks out of the superplex that defeated him before, but Neville locks in a unique submission, turning Swann into a pretzel for the win. Winner, and NEW Cruiserweight Champion (via submission): Neville

Predicted Winner: Neville (2/3)

AJ Styles (c) vs. John Cena – WWE World Championship
John Cena returned a few weeks ago from his brief hiatus, and put himself in a WWE World Championship match. How can he do that? Well, it’s because he’s John Cena. While Cena is one of the greatest of all time, he has never beaten Styles. Now that the WWE World Championship is on the line, perhaps Big Match John will show up, or Styles will just always be better than him.

AJ Styles kick out of the Attitude Adjustment, so John Cena hits another AA, and another one, and another one, until Styles stops kicking out. With this win, John Cena ties Ric Flair’s record of 16 World Championship title reigns. Winner, and NEW WWE World Champion: John Cena

Predicted Winner: AJ Styles (2/4)

The Royal Rumble Match
30 men enter the match, but only one will win. 22 spots have already been confirmed, which means there are 8 chances for the traditional Royal Rumble surprises.

  • Order of Entrants: Big Cass, Chris Jericho, Kalisto, Mojo Rawley, Jack Gallagher, Mark Henry, Braun Strowman, Sami Zayn, Big Show, Tye Dillinger, James Ellsworth, Dean Ambrose, Baron Corbin, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Sheamus, Big E, Rusev, Cesaro, Xavier Woods, Bray Wyatt, Apollo Crews, Randy Orton, Dolph Ziggler, Luke Harper, Brock Lesnar, Enzo Amore, Goldberg, The Undertaker, Roman Reigns
  • Order of Eliminations: Jack Gallagher, Mojo Rawley, Big Cass, Kalisto, Mark Henry, Big Show, James Ellsworth, Tye Dillinger, Braun Strowman, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Sheamus, Cesaro, Apollo Crews, Dean Ambrose, Dolph Ziggler, Enzo Amore, Brock Lesnar, Rusev, Baron Corbin, Luke Harper, Goldberg, The Miz, Sami Zayn, The Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Bray Wyatt, Roman Reigns

Randy Orton counters a spear into the RKO, then clotheslines Roman Reigns out of the ring to win the Royal Rumble and pencil his name in the main event of WrestleMania. Winner: Randy Orton

Predicted Winner: The Miz (2/5)
