A couple of pitching performances highlighted the Wednesday slate in Major League Baseball. Max Scherzer, who broke his nose in a batting practice accident Tuesday, struck out 10 and beat the Phillies with said broken nose and a big black eye. A little earlier, the Yankees’ CC Sabathia hit his second milestone of the season, beating the Rays to earn victory No. 250. Elsewhere, Dominican Republic officials now say the David Ortiz shooting was a case of mistaken identity. The Dodgers are very good but got some bad injury news when Rich Hill left the game, and the Yankees are looking to spend even more money.

When Max Scherzer inevitably goes into the Hall of Fame, maybe this ought to be on his plaque.

Earlier this season, Sabathia recorded his 3,000th strikeout. Now, he’s the third black pitcher to reach 250 wins. Congrats to the big man.

How do you mistake identity in an incident involving one of the most famous men in the Dominican Republic?

The Dodgers are deep and haven’t had a whole lot go wrong this season, but this would qualify as bad news.

The Yankees are planning on spending more money? Water is wet.
