There was only a half-slate of games on Monday, but they produced plenty of social-media-worthy moments. Two National League contenders, the Phillies and Brewers played a four-hour game that was decided in strange fashion. The Angels welcomed back Shohei Ohtani’s home-run swing. The Astros kept rolling. The Mariners broke a losing streak with a walk-off victory. And the Twins … well, they lost, but they had some fun doing it.

Contents
  • After a nearly hour-long rain delay, the Phillies and Brewers proceeded to play one of the season’s longest nine-inning games. Of all things, a strikeout-wild pitch to start a seventh-inning rally decided it.
  • The nation of Japan watches every time Shohei Ohtani bats. It has become apparent the rest of our nation should be watching, too.
  • The Astros keep on winning. A day after going 5-for-5, George Springer made a great catch at the wall in a victory over the Tigers.
  • The Mariners had lost four games in a row and 12 of their past 14, and they were down to their final strike a couple of times in this one. Then, walk-off magic.
  • Not sure what’s going on here, but it’s cool to watch. So check out the Twins and a sunflower seed shower in all of its glory.

It was a long game.
It was a weird game.

The nation of Japan watches every time Shohei Ohtani bats. It has become apparent the rest of our nation should be watching, too.

The @Angels Shohei Ohtani crushed his 1st HR of the season Monday night. 🚀

With a 111.6 mph exit velocity, it was the 2nd-hardest hit HR by an Angels player this season and his 6th career HR with a 110+ mph exit velocity. pic.twitter.com/gsVRuIZt8y

The Astros keep on winning. A day after going 5-for-5, George Springer made a great catch at the wall in a victory over the Tigers.
