UFC 202 Main Card Odds – The UFC 202 is at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday, August 8/20 with a PPV headlined by the rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz.
There is no doubt that center stage will be owned by McGregor and Diaz, as the UFC has banked on this fight to be a big gate. It will be, as both men come with passionate followers. Right now, it would appear that the Irish contingent has checked in, as McGregor is coming in the favorite for the fight despite being finished in the first meeting between the two men.
In the long war of words between them, it appears that McGregor has taken some of Diaz words seriously. The fact is that Diaz entered the first fight very confident that he was technically better than McGregor in every aspect of the game. He disdainfully called some of McGregor’s training “touch butt,” and then he went out in the fight and proved that he was right.
Do not misconstrue this in any way. McGregor lost the last fight but he was smart in his post-fight rhetoric and his drive for the rematch has meant that his persona has survived that loss. Remember, the rematch was originally scheduled for UFC 200, but McGregor famously no-showed a press conference that caused UFC President Dana White to scratch the fight. McGregor did not want to do the usual press tour because he was committed to his training at the time.
McGregor does realize a second loss could damage his ability to make money and get attention, and that is the bottom line with McGregor. He is counting on the renewed emphasis on training to acclimate him better to fighting at 170 lbs. In the first fight, McGregor seemed to tire because of the extra weight, and he has been working on addressing that. With more gas, McGregor can avoid trying to get the fight to the ground, and in a stand up fight he has a chance.
McGregor will still be a little shorter and have a reach disadvantage against Diaz, but in the first fight saw his precision striking land on Diaz in the early going. Diaz face after the fight showed the signs that he took a few shots. Heading into the first fight, McGregor was a -370 favorite, and this fight sees the odds come in a lot closer to pick ’em.

Has McGregor closed the gap in technique enough to warrant even odds? One big x-factor on McGregor’s side is the potential for Diaz to cut, as he has always been susceptible to that. A win by McGregor, even an unsatisfying win via cuts will almost certainly lead to a trilogy for this match-up.
