8 Best Bets For The 2018 Greenbrier Classic This Week

PGA

The PGA Tour will make its annual stop in White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia for the Greenbrier Classic this week. Despite the fact that this is a relatively new event, the actual venue is one of the oldest on the PGA Tour. There will be plenty of big names on hand when the field tees off on Thursday morning, but those betting on the tournament might want to pay attention to some of the fresh faces teeing off at the Greenbrier Classic for the first time this week. That is because five of the last six winners at this event were making their debuts at this course. We broke down the field to identify the best betting options on the board. Here is a look at the eight best bets to win the Greenbrier Classic this week. The betting odds below are provided by BetDSI Sportsbook.

Event Details

Event: The Greenbrier Classic

Category: PGA

Date: July 5th-8th, 2018

Location: The Greenbrier, White Sulpher Springs, West Virginia

Past Five Winners

2017: Xander Schauffele -14

2015: Danny Lee -13 (Playoff)

2014: Angel Cabrera -16

2013: Jonas Blixt -13

2012: Ted Porter Jr. -16 (Playoff)

Tony Finau +1400

Finau is the sports betting favorite heading in to this tournament and for good reason. He has an excellent course history here and his current form is solid. However, it is worth noting that course history hasn’t been a great indicator in terms of predicting an outright winner. Finau is still available at decent odds with his +1400 price tag. However, the fact that five of the past six winners were course debutants creates some uncertainty among the favorites.

Bubba Watson +1600

The same uncertainty applies to Watson, who is listed at +1600 to win the Greenbrier Classic outright. Watson is a three-time winner on the PGA Tour this season and he is the highest ranked golfer in the field for this event at No. 12. Can he put it all together and end the trend of course debutants winning outright? At decent odds, Watson is worth taking a chance on among the sports betting favorites.

Phil Mickelson +1600

Mickelson hasn’t been as dominant as Watson this season but he does have a strong pedigree and checks all of the boxes in terms of what you would look for from a Greenbrier Classic other than that he has plenty of experience here. Mickelson will want to generate some momentum before heading overseas for the next major tournament so he should be in the mix of contenders this week.

Webb Simpson +1600

Simpson is a very intriguing pick based in large part on the fact that he has recorded three top-10 finishes at the Greenbrier Classic. This season’s Sawgrass champion should find himself in the top-10 once again this week. The only question is whether or not he can put it all together and clinch the outright win. At +1600 odds, Simpson is worth putting some money down on in West Virginia.

Xander Schauffele +2000

The defending champion Schauffele claimed his breakthrough title here a year ago so he won’t be overlooked heading in to this year’s tournament. At +2000 odds, he could convince bettors that he is worth taking a chance on to double down at the Greenbrier Classic with another victory this year.

Danny Lee +4000

Lee is another former champion that offers excellent value this week. Lee won this tournament in 2015 and has posted three top-25 finishes at this course. Lee has had some mixed results in recent months with three top-15 finishes and three missed cuts. If he is on his game this week he should contend for the outright win.

Anirban Lahiri +5000

In terms of course debutants, Lahiri might be one of the best value options when it comes to betting on outright winners. Lahiri is coming off back-to-back top-15 finishes in his last two outings and he has the skill set to excel at the Greenbrier Classic. At +5000 odds, Lahiri is an excellent value pick this week.

Andrew Putnam +6600

One final value option to consider is Putnam, who is available at +6600 odds to win the Greenbrier Classic outright. Putnam was the runner-up to Dustin Johnson at TPC Southwind last month and he hasn’t placed lower than 27th in any of his last three starts. Putnam is another high upside play making his course debut this week so he should be considered as a deep sleeper pick to contend for the win at the Greenbrier Classic this week.
