Brees Passes the Mantle to Zion, Hill Suspension Speculation

NFL

There’s a new sheriff in town. Drew Brees is 40, and he knows that he probably doesn’t have much longer in the NFL. Since coming to the Big Easy, Brees has been the most beloved sports figure in the city’s history, and he is passing that on to No. 1 draft pick Zion Williamson. Williamson received a signed jersey from Brees when he arrived in New Orleans on Tuesday, and for the first time in the city’s history there is high optimism for both of its professional sports teams. The Saints are one of the Super Bowl favorites, and the Pelicans could make a strong playoff push if they add a big free agent in July.

It’s become commonplace for teams and leagues to release potentially inflammatory information over a holiday, and that’s what many believe will happen in regards to the NFL’s decision on Tyreek Hill. Hill is meeting with the NFL today after troubling audio emerged of him threatening his fiance earlier this year. This isn’t his first incident of domestic violence, having admitted to choking Espinal and beating her while she was pregnant during his time at Oklahoma State, but this is the first time he is facing punishment from the league for his actions.

Pro Football Focus has ranked the projected starting line-ups of every team in the NFL, and it’s no surprise that the New England Patriots are seen as having the most talented roster in the league. Three players (Tom Brady, Stephon Gilmore, and Lawrence Guy) were given an elite grade by PFF and the talent disparity between the Patriots and the rest of their division is stark. Buffalo, Miami, and the New York Jets are seen to have three of the four least talented rosters in the league. That’s why the safest bet in sports every year continues to be the Patriots to win the AFC East.
