EPL Power Rankings For Round 23

EPL

The EPL resumes this weekend with their 23rd round of games, but the transfer window opened up on January 1st and there have been a few big moves already. The biggest move so far, however, has been one player moving out of the Premier League to Spain as Philippe Coutinho finally made his long-awaited move from Liverpool to Barcelona. Although Liverpool doesn’t have much of a shot at winning the EPL this season – they are currently in fourth place, 18 points back – this is clearly going to hurt them. They are just three points up on fifth-place Tottenham, who

1. Manchester City

EPL Title Odds: -10000

Manchester City still has a resounding 15-point lead atop the table, but they were still in action this week as they dropped Burnley 4-1 at home in the FA Cup and then defeated Bristol City 2-1 at home in the first leg of their EFL Cup semifinal. Sergio Aguero netted a pair in the FA Cup, along with Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva, while Aguero scored the winner in the EFL Cup and Kevin De Bruyne added another. City hasn’t made any moves yet, but the rumor is that they’re closing in on Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and could have him by the weekend. City will visit Liverpool on Sunday.

2. Chelsea

EPL Title Odds: +6600

Chelsea are third in the table as they had 0-0 draws in a pair of cup competitions, first at Norwich City in the FA Cup and then at home with Arsenal in the first leg of their EFL Cup semifinal. Chelsea signed Ross Barkley from Everton for just over $20 million recently, but he has yet to play this season due to a hamstring injury and there is no date for his return. Chelsea will be at home this week as they host Leicester City in the league on Saturday, and then next Wednesday in the second leg of their FA Cup tie.

3. Manchester United

EPL Title Odds: +8000

Manchester United sits second in the table, a point ahead of Chelsea, and they won 2-0 at home in FA Cup thanks to goals from Jesse Lingard and Romelu Lukaku. They haven’t made any moves in the transfer window, but there are plenty of rumors going around and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they did some sort of business, big or small. They’ll return to action in the league on Monday at home against Stoke City.

4. Liverpool

EPL Title Odds: +8000

Liverpool are fourth in the table, three points behind Manchester United, and their last action was a 2-1 win at home over Everton in the FA Cup. James Milner scored from the penalty spot and then Virgil van Dijk netted a late winner on his debut for Liverpool after his world-record transfer from Southampton. But Liverpool also sold Coutinho to Barcelona for $143 million (the deal could reach $192 million with bonuses), and now the pressure is on to find something close to a replacement. They’ll host Manchester City on Sunday.

5. Tottenham

EPL Title Odds: +25000

Tottenham are fifth in the league, three points behind Liverpool. They are coming off a 1-1 draw at home with West Ham as Son Heung-Min equalized late in the team’s final league match before the break . Tottenham then cruised to a 3-0 home win over Wimbledon in the FA Cup as Harry Kane scored twice, and Jan Vertonghen scored for the first time in five years. They’ll host Everton on Saturday, and they have been quiet on the transfer front.

6. Arsenal

EPL Title Odds: +50000

Arsenal are sixth in the table, two points behind Tottenham, and their defense of the FA Cup ended early as they were eliminated in a 4-2 loss at Nottingham Forest as Per Mertesacker and Danny Welbeck scored. Then they held Chelsea to a 0-0 away draw in the first leg of their EFL Cup semifinal. They have yet to sell Sanchez to Manchester City, but it is better than Sanchez leaving for free in the summer, which could happen. They also sold Francis Coquelin to Valencia for just over $16 million. Arsenal will head to Bournemouth on Sunday in the league.

7. Burnley

EPL Title Odds: +250000

Burnley are seventh in the table, five points behind Arsenal, and they were eliminated from the FA Cup in a 4-1 loss at Manchester City as Ashley Barnes opened the scoring. However, that might be the best thing for Burnley as they can now focus on their form in the league, where they’re already basically guaranteed of staying up. Burnley also picked up Georges-Kevin Nkoudou on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the season. They’ll be back in action on Saturday as Burnley visits Crystal Palace.

8. Leicester City

EPL Title Odds: +250000

Leicester City are in eighth place in the league, four points behind Burnley. They drew 0-0 on the road at Fleetwood Town in their FA Cup tie. The rumor is that Leicester are going to hold on to Riyad Mahrez until the summer, but there is still lots of time for someone to come in and make them an offer they can’t refuse. Leicester will travel to Chelsea in the league on Saturday.

9. Everton

EPL Title Odds: +300000

Everton are ninth in the table, three points behind Leicester City. They fell 2-1 at Liverpool in the FA Cup despite a goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson, and then they sold Barkley to Chelsea. That was a move that had been coming for a while and now Everton has to replace him. Even though he had yet to play this season, Barkley was Everton’s best attacking player and they need someone close to his level to stay in the top half of the table. They’ll head to Tottenham on Saturday.

10. Watford

EPL Title Odds: +300000

Watford are 10th in the table, two points behind Everton. They routed Bristol City 3-0 in the FA Cup as Andre Carrillo, Troy Deeney and Etienne Capoue all found the back of the net. Watford’s big mission might be to hold on to Deeney, who is a target for Newcastle, and he would be a major loss for them. They’ll host Southampton in the league on Saturday.
