Last Minute Boxing Odds For Friday 7/15

Last Minute Boxing Odds

Last Minute Boxing Odds – The sports books have posted several odds for boxing this Friday, July 15th. All the fights popping up at the sports books for Friday are scheduled to air in the United States as ESPN brings us more Premier Boxing Champions and Spanish language stations Estrella TV and Telemundo are set to air boxing from Golden Boy and Tuto Zabala Jr respectively.

In Florida, Orlando Cruz (23-4-1) defends his NABO super featherweight title against Alejandro Valdez (26-7-2). This fight invokes the traditional Puerto Rico versus Mexico rivalry, as the Puerto Rico native Cruz will be defending his belt for the third time. Valdez, from Mexico, is coming off a KO win last September against Carlos Joan Jacobo (20-10-1) but that fight came after a four year layoff. At 35 years old, Cruz is now 16 years removed from his 2000 Olympic appearance representing Puerto Rico, but he has developed into a bit of a modern day hero as Cruz is openly gay.

The PBC on ESPN is in the midst of a run that will offer six events over a seven week span, and this Friday’s show in Tunica, Mississippi it is all about up and coming prospect Sergey Lipinets. Lipinets is 9-0 as a pro, and he is looking to move up the rankings quickly. We last saw him in March of this year, when he stopped Levan Ghvamichava with a fifth round TKO. In Walter Castillo, he faces a tested veteran who is 26-3-1 overall. This is Castillo’s first fight of 2016 after going 1-1-1 in 2015 against upgraded competition.

The card in Tunica, Mississippi also features undefeated (5-0) Olympic silver medalist Tugstsogt Nyambayar of Mongolia as he faces his toughest test to date in Rafael Vasquez. Vasquez is a tough fighter who has never been stopped, and Nyambayar has won all of his pro fights via KO. The match is scheduled for 10 rounds, the longest bout of Nyambayar’s career thus far.

The last of Friday’s bouts getting attention at the books is from Golden Boy Promotions and comes to us from the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California. Featherweight Jayson Velez (23-2-1) of Puerto Rico attempts to snap a two fight losing streak as he takes on Rene Alvarado (23-7). Alvarado has also lost two in a row, and his hard luck streak sees him going 3-5 in his last eight fights. Both men went the full ten round distance with blue chip prospect Joseph “JoJo” Diaz in losses. Velez at 28 years old may still harbor some hopes of a world title run in his future, and he can ill afford another loss on his resume in this one.
