The home runs, they keep on a-comin’. The Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night set the National League record for home runs, just days after the Minnesota Twins set the Major League record. The Kansas City Royals’ Jorge Soler became the first player in franchise history with 40 bombs in a season. And we still have almost a month to play!

Speaking of home runs, the Yankees are hoping Giancarlo Stanton makes it back before the end of the year. And the end of the year might be all she wrote for the Nationals and Stephen Strasburg, who suddenly has a lot of contract leverage.

It took Joc Pederson all of four pitches Wednesday to mash the Dodgers’ 249th home run of the season to tie the NL record. Later in the game, he hit No. 250, too.

The Royals were the last franchise without a single 40-home run season from a player. Jorge Soler ended that with authority on Wednesday.

The guy everyone expected to be hitting a lot of homers, Stanton, has only played in nine games this season. But he’s hoping to get back before the playoffs.

Well, this would spice up the free-agent market, wouldn’t it? Strasburg has 215 strikeouts already this year and has been healthy the whole season, too.
