WWE Smackdown Recap: WrestleMania Pre-Pre-Show

Since this the last Smackdown before WrestleMania, there will be a heavy focus on promoting the big show, which takes place on this Sunday April 3rd. Instead of tons of matches to get the fans excited, WWE is relying on promotional video packages, along with pre-show style segments with Renee Young and Byron Saxton.

AJ Styles vs. Heath Slater (w/Social Outcasts)
Both of these competitors (along with Bo Dallas, Adam Rose, and Curtis Axel of Social Outcasts) have big opportunites at WrestleMania 32. AJ Styles has been feuding with Chris Jericho ever since his debut in the WWE, with Chris Jericho calling him a “rookie,” (Styles has been wrestling for almost two decades) and welcoming him to “the big leagues” (Styles had wrestled in New Japan Pro Wrestling before signing with WWE, which is one of the best wrestling promotions in the world.) Styles has two wins over Jericho, who has also won a match in their series. After they briefly teamed at Y2AJ (we have the Social Outcasts to thank for the name), Jericho turned on Styles after they lost a Tag Team Championship match, and Styles looks to get his revenge this Sunday.

The Social Outcasts on the other hand were the first competitors to announce their participation in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The Battle Royal has been an annual tradition at WrestleMania since WrestleMania 30, where “The King of Swing,” Cesaro, won the inaugural iteration of the match. Big Show would go on to win the second opportunity, and one of the Social Outcasts has the opportunity to add their name to the list of winners, as well as getting a nice trophy.

Heath Slater puts up a good fight, but AJ Styles is on his game (as usual), and hits the Phenomenal Forearm on Slater for the win. Winner: AJ Styles

Jey Uso (w/Jimmy Uso) vs. D-Von Dudley (w/Bubba Ray Dudley)
Jimmy and Jey Uso have had their problems with the Dudley Boyz (the 9-time Tag Team Champions) ever since Bubba Ray and D-Von Dudley turned on them after an eight-man tag team match. The Dudley Boyz have been tired of the fans chanting for the tables, so they got rid of them permanently, as well as just being angry in general. The Usos will face the Dudley Boyz at WrestleMania on the Pre-Show, which will be on various streaming sites, as well as the USA Network and the WWE Network.

After a fight breaks out between Jimmy Uso and Bubba Ray Dudley outside the ring, D-Von Dudley hits the RDS (“Ron Damn Simmons”, which is just a spinebuster) on Jey Uso to pick up the victory. Winner: D-Von Dudley

Dean Ambrose vs. Erick Rowan
Erick Rowan, along with the Braun Strowman and Bray Wyatt of the Wyatt Family, are expected to participate in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania. It is also rumored that they might get involved in Dean Ambrose’s match with Brock Lesnar, but that is just speculation.

Erick Rowan is the member of the Wyatt Family that gets the least amount of in-ring action (other than maybe Bray Wyatt), so it is nice to see a change of pace. Luke Harper is currently rumored as out with a leg injury, although that has not been confirmed by WWE. If Harper was healthy, he would probably be working this match, since he has a history of great matches, especially with Dean Ambrose.

Dean Ambrose manages to hit Dirty Deeds on Erick Rowan, getting a much needed victory before his match with Brock Lesnar this Sunday. Winner: Dean Ambrose
