The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Dillon Dubé to a professional tryout agreement with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. The move comes nearly five months after Dubé and other members of Canada’s 2018 World Junior Championship team were acquitted of sexual assault following a high-profile legal case.
Dubé, 27, has not played in the NHL since parting ways with the Calgary Flames earlier in 2024. He had been under scrutiny due to his involvement in a 2018 incident that led to a lengthy investigation and legal proceedings. In July 2025, a judge found Dubé and his former teammates not guilty, clearing the way for him to resume his hockey career.
The Blues’ decision to bring Dubé in on a tryout basis reflects a cautious return to professional play. The AHL tryout does not guarantee a full contract or placement on the NHL roster, but it does offer Dubé a chance to prove himself and potentially earn a longer-term opportunity.
Dubé was originally drafted by the Calgary Flames in the second round (56th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He debuted with the Flames during the 2018-19 season and went on to play parts of six seasons with the club. Over the course of his NHL career so far, he has appeared in over 200 games and compiled more than 80 points.
Blues management has not issued a public statement on the signing beyond confirming the tryout agreement. The team, like several others across the league, appears to be evaluating potential roster additions ahead of the second half of the AHL and NHL seasons.
Dubé’s return to professional hockey will primarily be assessed at the AHL level, where he will need to demonstrate that he can contribute both on the ice and within the team’s culture. His performance during the tryout period will determine whether he earns a contract extension or further increases his chances at a potential NHL return.
The AHL affiliate where Dubé is expected to play has not yet formally announced his debut date or details regarding his integration into the team.
