CFL Betting: The Ottawa Redblacks visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday in the franchise’s first ever game. The expansion Redblacks are not expected to look like the typical expansion franchise that struggles as they have a lot of talent including an experienced quarterback in Henry Burris. The opener for the Redblacks will be in Winnipeg against a Blue Bombers team that looked really good in last week’s 45-21 rout of the Toronto Argonauts. Let’s take a closer look at this contest on Thursday.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Favored
The Redblacks may get a rude welcoming to the league as they are playing on the road against a Winnipeg Blue Bombers team that was extremely impressive last week. Quarterback Drew Willy threw four touchdown passes in his first start and Aaron Kelly caught two TD passes. The Blue Bombers defense forced three turnovers and even scored a touchdown. Head coach Mike O’Shea had his team ready to play and they surprised a lot of people. The 45 points were the most for a Winnipeg team in a non-overtime game since 2010. Willy threw for 309 yards and Nic Grigsby ran for more than 100 yards. “I know I can play,” Willy said. “It feels great. Our ultimate goal was to get the win. We did a good job moving the ball.”
Burris Expects to Win with Ottawa Redblacks
Quarterback Henry Burris led the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to the Grey Cup last year but the team did not bring him back as they let him go to Ottawa. Burris comes into this year feeling a little bit disrespected. “This is my fourth different offense in four years. It’s funny, a lot of people fail to talk about that when they talk about production and stuff like that. But I’m just trying to get comfortable right now and the faster we’re able to get comfortable with what we’re doing, and doing it together, we will be successful.” Burris led the league in passing yards last season and he expects nothing less than a playoff berth for his expansion team. “Playoffs. That’s the minimum, for how I think, as well as the guys on this team,” he said.
