The Best 2018 College Football Prop Bets

Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

Patience is a virtue. It’s something you hear all of your life, and if you heed that advice you can make a considerable amount of money in betting — especially when it comes to college football prop bets.

Two of the easiest ways to make money in sports betting are by betting futures and betting props. These lines are generally softer than the week-to-week or day-to-day lines sportsbooks post, and a savvy bettor can make some serious coin on these if they are willing to tie up their money for a few months. Let’s take a look at some of the top bets on the board heading into the 2018 college football betting season.

Wyoming Cowboys Under 6.5 Wins +115

Josh Allen’s departure has been overhyped by some, but Wyoming is going to be significantly worse than they were in 2017 for another reason, turnovers. The Cowboys were extraordinarily fortunate when it came to turnovers last season. Wyoming forced a whopping 38 turnovers in 2017, a figure that was the highest in the nation by a considerable amount.

To be fair, Wyoming’s defense was pretty good, and it should be again this season. The Cowboys bring back most of their starters, and they don’t give up big plays. However, the numbers say this defense should have forced about a full turnover less per game than they did, and they are not likely to get that type of good fortune again.

Wyoming will be starting a redshirt freshman at quarterback in Tyler Vander Waal, and there are bound to be some hiccups. The Cowboys’ schedule is front-loaded, with their toughest opponents in the first couple months of the season. They could rally late in the year, but I see a 5-7 or 6-6 year from the Cowboys.

Florida Gators Over 8 Wins -125

The Gators are bringing in a new coach this season, but Dan Mullen is no stranger to Gainesville. Mullen made a name for himself here as Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator, and his return brings reminders of the halcyon days of Florida football. Mullen is one of the most talented offensive minds in the business, and he will turn this program around in 2018.

Muller will have the help of a favorable schedule too. Although Georgia is a juggernaut, every other game on the Gators’ schedule is winnable. Florida has a talent advantage over every other team in the SEC East aside from Georgia, and Mullen proved he is fantastic at developing talent during his time at Mississippi State.

It’s hard for me to see Florida going less than 8-4 this year. There’s a good chance this college football prop bet pushes, but I don’t see the Gators going 7-5 or worse.

Futures Bets

Notre Dame to win the CFB National Championship +3416

In recent memory, there have been many times that Notre Dame has been overrated coming into a season. However, the Fighting Irish are absurdly underrated coming into 2018.

Notre Dame went 10-3 in 2017, and the Irish bring back the majority of its starters coming into the season. They do lose some stars like running back Josh Adams and guard Quenton Nelson, but this schedule is going to set the Irish up for success.

According to Bill Connelly’s numbers, the Fighting Irish are favorites in every game this season. The toughest tests will be against Michigan, Stanford, Florida State and USC, but all of those programs have big questions to answer coming into the season and could be in for down years.

Given the names on their schedule and the prestige of their brand, Notre Dame only needs to go 11-1 in the regular season to make the College Football Playoff. That’s entirely possible.
