The Gronkcast: Inside the NFL – Episode 3

Rob Gronkowski

History is made as Chris Gronkowski drops his first “Bulletproof Pick of the Week” this preseason in the third edition of the Gronkcast, exclusive to GetMoreSports.com.

While Chris has held off on making preseason picks up to this point, Glenn Gronkowksi has delivered the entire time. Last week he picked the San Francisco 49ers at +3 over the Houston Texans. It was the first time Glenn didn’t pick up the “W” in his picks, with the Houston Texans scoring in the final second to win 16-13.

Episode 3 fully showcases the uniqueness of the Gronkcast. Both Chris and Glenn played in the NFL, but as fullbacks, they didn’t ride in as high draft choices and get the big contracts. When they do a deep dive into their own financial histories in the league, what they made as rookies and how the pay scale works for the average NFL player, it’s a sobering reminder on how it all actually works.

They also have a brother, Rob Gronkowski, who has made the big money as a star tight end for the New England Patriots. It’s safe to say you won’t hear these kind of perspectives anywhere else.

Don’t Miss the Gronkcast episode 3:  An exclusive look inside the NFL Preseason and what it’s like to be starting as a rookie:

In the second segment of the show, both guys discuss what it’s like to jump into the league and land on special teams.

For Chris, it was an opportunity to stay on a roster, which he did for half a decade.

“As a rookie, for me, you want to see a guy, especially at the fullback position, any kind of guy that can be on the team on special teams you want to see him starting on at least one or two of the special teams at this point. That’s when you know (that) you’re going to make the team. If you’re not on special teams, unless you’re one of the top round picks, that’s the only way you won’t be …. At this point, 100 percent, my main focus was talking to the special teams coach and making sure I knew exactly what he wanted out of me because that’s how I knew I was going to make the team.”

For Glenn, special teams meant the opportunity to deliver a tackle instead of receiving it.

“As long as you’re out there in the preseason, because this isn’t just a job interview for the team you’re on, there’s 31 other teams that are watching film of you … Every single coach is watching film of you. You want to make sure you are balling out.”

Before they make their picks, the Gronks answer some listener question that reveal the more entertaining aspects of training camp, especially about being a rookie in the NFL.

That segues into the money available for most players outside of the top tier, how it worked for them, and how game checks, preseason and bonuses function.

Glenn finishes off the podcast by delivering another pick in an attempt to land back in the win column. Chris stops the presses with his first pick of the year before the show wraps up.
