The Gronkcast: Inside the NFL – Episode 4

NFL

With Week 4 of the NFL preseason mainly serving as an audition for players at the bottom end of a roster, Chris and Glenn Gronkowski forgo the picks this week and instead focus on some of the strategies required to bet successfully in the regular season.

While the starters and stars of each team might be in street clothes, that doesn’t mean there’s no reason to pay attention to this week’s slate of games.

“Week four is when players, who don’t normally play get a chance to play, the bubble players, that’s when their roster spot is on the line,” Chris said. “That’s when you’re going to make teams. For something that we’re not that interested in, it’s is actually the biggest game of their lives for these rookies and these guys that haven’t gotten a chance yet.”

As usual, the Gronkowski brothers give you a solid peak behind the curtain of the lives of NFL players, giving personal insight on current free agents as well as the rookie and training camp experience.

Glenn and Chris discuss live lines and how they like to use those to bet during the season, moreso than the pre-game lines.

“My betting strategy is, if I can’t watch the game, I’m not putting any money on it,” Chris said. “Sometimes it’s just a bad week. Sometimes teams just come out flat. You can usually see that right off the bat. For me, watching the O-line is huge.”

Glenn then shares what he likes to look for before placing any of his one cash on a team. Whether it be the forecast, the running game, temperature and every other variable. Chris also delves into his strategies on half lines and why they can pay off so well.

Before the show is over, the Gronk brothers discuss their favorite available futures picks, especially concerning the Cleveland Browns and Baker Mayfield.

“They’ve got Tyrod Taylor and they say he’s going to be the starter in Week 1,” Glenn said. “But in Week 1 they’ve got the Steelers. In Week 2, they’ve got the Saints. In Week 3, they’ve got the Jets. I think they might start 0-2 and the fans might want to see Baker Mayfield (considering) how good he’s done. Going against the Jets is the perfect time to start.”

Not only do they touch on the rookie quarterbacks, they go into passing yards futures with experienced quarterbacks. These are some solid suggestions with some stat-driven analysis backing up their picks.

How about a Super Bowl futures pick? Glenn dives right in with the bet that he likes and, again, has the stats and data to back up the pick. Like every episode, the Gronkowski brothers share their own experiences with coaches and situations around the league to give access and insight you won’t get anywhere else.

“I had him as a coach at the senior bowl,” Glenn says of a member of the coaching staff from his Super Bowl pick. “That guy is a great coach. Great defensive coach. We only had him for two practices and he’d give these unbelievable motivational speeches. They’d give you chills.”
