Detroit Red Wings at Anaheim Ducks Odds

Anaheim is 2-0 straight up (SU) and has netted 2.6 units for moneyline bettors this year. That winning percentage, ranked first in the NHL in this young season, is an improvement over the 44-38 record from the 2017-18 season campaign.

The Ducks have successfully scored on 40.0 percent of their power play opportunities in 2018-19. That’s a noticeable improvement from last year, when they were ranked 24th in the league by scoring on 17.3 percent of their extra-man advantages. Their penalty kill has gotten stronger year-over-year as they’ve gone from successfully defending 82.3 percent of opponents’ power plays (ranked fifth overall last season) to 100.0 percent this year.

The Ducks, as a collective unit, have been penalized 3.5 times per game this season. Last year, they posted the third-highest figure in the league with 4.3 penalties per game. After serving an average of 10.2 penalty minutes per game a season ago the team’s had to kill penalties for just 7.0 minutes per matchup this year.

Sporting a .973 save percentage and 36.0 saves per game, the undefeated John Gibson (2-0) has been the principal option in goal for Anaheim this season.

On the other side of the rink, Detroit is 0-2 straight up (SU) and has lost 1.0 unit for bettors taking the moneyline thus far. Through two regular season contests, one of its games has gone under the total, while none have gone over and none have pushed.

The Wings have scored on 42.9 percent of their power play chances this year after successfully converting on 17.5 percent of their extra-man opportunities in 2017-18 (a mark that was ranked just 23rd in the NHL). The team’s gone from successfully defending 77.6 percent of opponent power plays (ranked 23rd overall last season) to 88.9 percent in 2018-19.

Detroit’s skaters have been called for penalties 6.0 times per game this season, a number that has climbed noticeably from the 3.7 penalties per game given up last year. After serving an average of 9.0 penalty minutes per game a year ago, the team’s been forced to stave off opponent power plays for a whopping 18.5 minutes per matchup this season.

Jonathan Bernier (21.0 saves per game) has been the primary choice in goal for Detroit. Bernier owns a 0-1 record, and has registered a .875 save percentage and 3.09 goals against average this year.
