Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has affirmed Anthony Gordon’s commitment to the club amid reports linking the forward with Bayern Munich, the report says. When asked about the Bayern links, Howe replied: “No, none. That’s not something I’m involved in.”
The report says Gordon has been the subject of reported interest from Bayern Munich, with claims they opened talks with Newcastle over a possible move. The report notes Gordon joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 and has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season.
Howe was asked if he feels Gordon is fully committed and responded: “Yeah, he wouldn’t be in the squad if that was the case. And I judge that, as I said many times, not on communications elsewhere, I do that with my relationship with the player and how I see them train.” The manager said he preferred to assess commitment through his interactions with the player rather than outside communications.
The report says Newcastle are 13th in the table with three games remaining, beginning with a trip to Nottingham Forest on Sunday. With the campaign drawing to a close, Howe described the summer transfer window as “difficult to predict” and said he was focused on securing a strong finish. “All I’m looking to do is try and finish the season with the squad in a really strong way and the players be committed to what they’re doing right here, right now,” he added.
The report says Newcastle announced midfielder Lewis Miley had fractured his fibula in training. Howe described the injury as occurring in a “really innocuous moment,” saying Miley slipped and initially appeared to have only twisted his leg before it became clear the problem was more serious. “Now he faces a few months out, we hope that he’ll be back in and around for pre-season,” Howe said. He also revealed Tino Livramento is “improving” but suggested it is unlikely the full-back will feature again this season.
