MLB Picks:  There has not been much for baseball bettors and handicappers to choose from with the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox as both teams have been among the biggest losers on the MLB betting board.  In the case of the Cubs, it’s nothing new, as they are perpetual losers.  For the Red Sox it has been an incredible roller coaster ride for the past three seasons as they were a last place bankroll buster in 2013, a surprise gem of a board value and World Series champion in 2013, and now a team again in danger of residing in the basement while gushing red ink.  The Boston Red Sox will host the Chicago Cubs at Fenway Park with coverage on ESPN starting at 7:10 PM ET.

Boston Bats Silent

The Red Sox were -1291 betting units and went under the total in 26 out of 39 home games.  They were -1063 units on the run line.  Boston’s problem was that they ranked 26th in MLB for run production.  The Red Sox also suffered a drop in pitching as they ranked 14th for staff earned run average.

Hibernating Cubs Offense

The Cubs had similar problems to Boston as they ranked 24th for run production as they were 15-26 on the road and -814 units overall.  Chicago ranked 9th for staff earned run average.

The Pick

The Red Sox have paid out in 5 out of their last 7 games with the Cubs with 3 out of the last 4 games between the Cubs and Red Sox going under the total.  Even with the high price that is likely for this matchup Boston is the better of the two bad choices here with the game to go under the total!
