The Baltimore Orioles signed outfielder Tommy Pham to a minor league contract Saturday, the report says. The move was described as an effort to bolster a struggling outfield, according to the report.
The club added Pham three days after outfielder Dylan Beavers was placed on the injured list with a right oblique strain, the report says.
Pham, 38, had a brief stint with the New York Mets this season, going hitless in 13 at-bats over nine games before New York designated him for assignment on April 27, the report says. He elected free agency two days later, per the report.
Over 13 major league seasons, Pham has played for 10 different teams and compiled a .256 batting average, 149 home runs and 522 runs batted in, along with 131 stolen bases, the report says. He was also a Gold Glove finalist in left field last season while with Pittsburgh, per the report.
The signing gives Baltimore an experienced option in the organization’s outfield mix, the report says. Further roster moves or a timeline for Pham joining the major-league club were not detailed in the report.
