2018 LPGA Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA Classic Tournament Preview

Shanshan Feng

The 2018 LPGA Tour season will tee off with the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic on Paradise Island in the Bahamas this week. Shanshan Feng will open the year at the top of the world golf rankings. Feng has held that No. 1 ranking for 11 consecutive weeks since she won the CME Group Tour Championship to close out last season. She will have plenty of competition at this event as she tees off against a loaded field that will feature four other players that are ranked in the top-10 in the world.

Here is a look at what to expect at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic this week.

Event Details

Event: Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic

Category: LPGA

Date: January 25-28, 2018

Location: Ocean Club Golf Course, Paradise Island, Bahamas

Feng will be joined by world No. 3 So Yeon Ryu, No. 4 Lexi Thompson, No. 5 In-Kyung Kim and No. 8 Ariya Jutanugarn among the top-10 ranked golfers that are competing this week. That means we’re going to see a very competitive event. Meanwhile, Brittany Lincicome will be on hand to defend her title after winning this tournament a year ago. Lincicome isn’t among the sports betting favorites to repeat at this tournament but her betting odds make her an intriguing play for this week’s event. Feng is the favorite but there are six golfers inside of 20/1 to win this event.

Past Five Winners

2017: Brittany Lincicome -26

2016: Kim Hyo-joo -18

2015: Kim Sei-young -14

2014: Jessica Korda -19

2013: Ilhee Lee -11

What To Know About The Course

Most of the top contenders in this year’s field have some experience at this course so familiarity will be important. Wind is in the forecast for this week so Driving Accuracy will be extremely important. Putting statistics are always important and that will once again be the case this week. Those contenders that are able to capitalize on their opportunities on the greens should have an excellent shot at contending for the win. Consistency will be extremely important at the Ocean Club Golf Course this weekend.

The Field

Feng is listed as the sports betting favorite to win this tournament at +500 odds. Meanwhile, Thompson is right behind her according to the betting odds at +600. Ryu, Stacy Lewis and Jutanugarn are all expected to be in the mix with Ryu and Lewis listed at +1000 odds to win outright while Jutanugarn is available at +1400 odds. Another name to keep an eye out for this week is Brooke Henderson. Henderson is listed at +2000 odds to win and could be worth sprinkling some money on as a sleeper pick for the outright victory this week.

A Good Matchup To Bet: Brooke Henderson over Shanshan Feng

Henderson is riding some momentum following a seventh-place finish at the Diamond Resorts Invitational last week. Henderson finished the tournament on fire and could surprise this week as a major champion that has enough experience at this event to contend for the win. For as good as Feng has been, any potential letdown this week could result in Henderson being a strong pick to finish ahead of her in the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic.

Top-Five Pick: Brittany Lincicome

One of the most interesting aspects of the sports betting odds for this week’s tournament is the fact that Lincicome is listed so low on the board. The defending Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic winner is available to bet on at +2000 to win outright. Lincicome is coming off a strong performance last week in her final tune-up for this event. While she will have a difficult time successfully defending her title with a win this week, there is a very good chance Lincicome places in the top-five at this week’s event in the Bahamas.
