Third baseman Alex Bregman has agreed to a five-year, $175 million contract with the Chicago Cubs, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The deal brings one of the league’s more accomplished infielders to the National League Central as the Cubs continue to reshape their roster for the upcoming seasons.

Bregman, a two-time All-Star and World Series champion, has been a key figure in Major League Baseball since his debut. Known for his plate discipline, run production, and strong defensive skills at third base, Bregman has consistently been among the league leaders in several offensive categories throughout his career. He spent his entire MLB tenure with the Houston Astros prior to reaching free agency.

The Cubs, aiming to return to postseason contention, appear to be making a significant addition by bringing in Bregman. His experience in high-pressure situations and leadership qualities could provide a boost to a young core that is looking to take the next step in the competitive National League landscape.

The agreement reportedly includes no opt-outs, and Bregman is expected to provide stability at third base while boosting the middle of the batting order. His ability to get on base and hit for power aligns with the Cubs’ broader offensive strategy heading into the 2026 season.

This marks the latest in a series of roster moves by the Cubs’ front office, reflecting a commitment to building a more competitive team. Bregman’s leadership and postseason experience are seen as valuable assets as the Cubs strive to climb back to the top of their division.

As the team prepares for spring training, all eyes will be on how Bregman integrates into his new clubhouse and contributes to the next chapter in Chicago Cubs baseball. The organization has not yet officially announced the signing.
