Astros News: Yordan Alvarez Home Run Hits Fan In Gut While Double-Fisting Beers

First some humor, and then some history; in regards to Yordan Alvarez’s home run in game five of the World Series. While it gave the Astros a 2-0 lead in the game on Joe Ross and the Washington Nationals – something more remarkable happened during the play.

Indeed, as you watched the ball go into the crowd; a fan appears to take it off his gut. Well, that’s exactly what he did. Equally important – he was holding a beer in each hand – and taking it to the gut allowed him to keep holding the beer.

Per Mike Petriello on twitter, we have an excellent action-shot for you.

This guy is downright heroic. Still, Statcast measured the 405-foot shot at 106.4 miles per hour off the bat; so it’s fair to guess that this gentleman is wearing a bruise with some laces on his belly today.

However, he came up with the baseball at the end of the replay. Truly, one of the more heroic fan moments I remember in World Series crowd history.

Also there was some history accomplished with this blast. While it’s known that Alvarez has struggled a bit in the 2019 postseason, he finally got on the board with a long one in the World Series. With the home run, he’s the youngest Cuban-born player to homer in World Series history. At 22 years and 122 days, he passes former Oakland Athletic Jose Canseco.

Indeed, Alvarez began the 2019 season as a relative unknown in baseball circles. Then he burst on the scene and hit 27 home runs in about a half season’s action before the playoffs began.

It’s hard to believe Houston acquired him from the Los Angeles Dodgers for Josh Fields. Forever, his name is etched in the history books; along with the guy in the Nationals’ crowd who held onto two beers when the homer landed in his sternum area.
