With a moneyline of -145, Carolina enters the contest as the heavy favorite. The line for the Islanders sits at +125 and oddsmakers have set the Over/Under (O/U) at an even 6 goals (-120 over, +100 under).

New York is 11-10 straight up (SU) and has earned 3.8 units for moneyline bettors this season. That winning percentage, ranked 3rd in the Metropolitan Division in this young season, is a welcome improvement over the 35-47 record from last year’s regular season campaign. Through 21 regular season matches, nine of the team’s games have gone over the total, while an additional nine have gone under and just two have pushed. The team’s 5-4 SU at home this season.

The Islanders have converted on 17.4 percent of their power play opportunities this season, a mark that’s right around league average. On the other hand, their penalty kill is ranked 18th overall, and they’ve successfully killed off 78.9 percent of all penalties.

Averaging 26.8 saves per game with a .926 save percentage, Thomas Greiss (9-4-1) has been the most dependable goalkeeper for New York this year. Greiss did just play last night, however, so New York could choose to give him the night off and turn to Robin Lehner instead (4-7-7 record, .906 save percentage, 2.99 goals against average).

Carolina has lost 5.4 units for bettors taking the moneyline this year and is currently 11-11 straight up (SU). A total of 13 of its contests have gone under the total, while eight have gone over and none have pushed. As a road team, the Hurricanes are 4-5 SU so far.

The Hurricanes have converted on 17.3 percent of their power play chances this year, a figure that’s right around league average. On the other hand, its penalty kill unit is ranked 27th overall and it’s successfully killed off 75.0 percent of all opponent power plays.

Curtis McElhinney (2.25 goals against average and .919 save percentage) has been the primary option in goal for Carolina. McElhinney is averaging 25.5 saves per game and has six wins and two losses to his credit.
