CHICAGO — A fan was taken to a local hospital after falling into the Kansas City bullpen at Rate Field, briefly delaying the White Sox-Royals game, the report says.
The game was halted in the top of the fourth with Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. at the plate when a stadium official flagged the attention of umpire crew chief Chris Conroy, the report says. Both managers were summoned from their dugouts for an explanation as personnel responded to the incident.
After receiving assistance, the fan was removed from the bullpen on a gurney and, the White Sox said, subsequently taken to a local hospital for further treatment. The team did not provide details on the fan’s condition or the nature of any injuries, per the report.
According to a White Sox announcement, the short delay was to allow club personnel to provide treatment. As the fan was being attended to, the players and coaches in the Royals’ bullpen gathered in the corner near the gate to give the response team extra space to work, the report says.
The game resumed after a few minutes, per the report. No additional information about the fan’s condition or any further actions taken by the clubs was provided in the announcement.
