The Kansas Jayhawks basketball program is in hot water with the NCAA. According to the Kansas City Star, the Jayhawks will soon be hit by “multiple major violations” from the NCAA, casting a large shadow over the upcoming season.

Although Kansas has yet to receive anything official from the NCAA, it appears that a notice of allegations is imminent. That would make the Jayhawks the second basketball program to receive a notice of allegations from the NCAA this offseason.
North Carolina State received a notice of allegations from the NCAA in early July. Two Level I violations and two Level II violations were levied against the Wolfpack, although no one currently involved with the NC State program has been charged by the NCAA.
Those charges are related to former head coach Mark Gottfried and former NC State player Dennis Smith. It’s alleged that Smith received at least $40,000 to come to NC State, and that could lead to a show-cause penalty being levied against Gottfried.
Back in June, Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports reported that the NCAA would notify six programs of major NCAA violations by the end of the summer. The NCAA investigations are a result of the FBI’s investigation into corruption in college basketball and focused on schools like Arizona, Louisville, Oklahoma State, USC, Auburn, LSU, and Kansas.
While Kansas coach Bill Self was not implicated by the FBI in their investigation of Kansas, a former Adidas employee that was in contact with Self and assistant coach Kurtis Townsend plead guilty to sending money to the families of two Kansas players, and that could lead to the organization punishing Self, Townsend, and Kansas basketball.
We’ve seen NCAA investigations last for years in the past, so it could take a while to see this all play out.
