La Liga Fantasy: Week 16 Lineup

Real Madrid’s absence in La Liga action this weekend will open the door for us to look elsewhere when it comes to building our DraftKings lineups for Sunday’s contests. Barcelona’s matchup with Espanyol tops our projected list of potential high scoring games but it’s also worth considering some strong fantasy options from Deportivo’s favorable matchup with Osasuna along with Eibar’s projected edge over Leganes. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this Sunday’s DraftKings La Liga fantasy leagues.

GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona

Salary: $6,000

There is only a $100 difference between the Barcelona and Deportivo goalkeepers so we opted to stick with the former as the top option on the board for Saturday. Espanyol has had a decent season to this point but we think Barcelona has the edge head-to-head and we are comfortable taking ter Stegen to get the win and potentially a clean sheet bonus as well. Barcelona has typically been a good choice to look for goaltenders in La Liga fantasy. They have allowed just 15 goals on the year, which is the third-fewest in the Spanish Primera.

D: Samuel Umtiti, Barcelona

Salary: $3,600

It only makes sense to have at least one defender option from Barcelona and considering his playing time and price tag it makes sense to roll with Umtiti as the best option on the board. Umtiti is a more than capable option and his low price tag will allow us to spend big on the attacking positions.

D: Florian Lejeune, Eibar

Salary: $3,300

Lejeune is another strong value option at just $3.3K. Eibar should have the edge in their head-to-head matchup with Leganes and the potential is there for Lejeune to benefit from a clean sheet bonus if they can completely shut down the Leganes attack. Eibar has had a so-so start to the season so far as they enter the weekend in eighth place in the standings. They have registered 22 points, which ties them with Espanyol, just one point ahead of four other teams.

M: Pedro Leon, Eibar

Salary: $8,000

Leon is the best attacking option on the Eibar roster and he isn’t priced beyond our reach either. At just $8K, Leon is a smart midfield selection that should compliment our value play from Barcelona in the midfield. Eibar isn’t always a great option for offense in terms of La Liga fantasy but this looks like a good spot. They have scored 21 goals so far in 15 games, which is decent for them but not great overall.

M: Arda Turan, Barcelona

Salary: $7,600

Considering his overall numbers so far this year it’s pretty amazing that Turan is still priced at below $8K. We will take it as he is an excellent value option in the Barcelona midfield this weekend. Barcelona has been an offensive juggernaut this season, which makes Turan a decent option for La Liga fantasy. Barcelona has scored 37 goals so far this season, which is the second-most in La Liga (second only to Real Madrid).

F: Luis Suarez, Barcelona

Salary: $9,700

While we considered rolling with Messi as the highest-priced player available on the board once again this weekend, Suarez appears to be the better option at $1.5K less. Messi is still the main man up front for Barcelona but this team knows how to move the ball and their playmaking means that Suarez could be in the mix for a goal or an assist every time Messi has the ball on his foot.

F: Florin Andone, Deportivo

Salary: $7,300

Our final attacking option is the best available choice up front for Deportivo in Andone. By sticking with Suarez over Messi, we are able to lock in Andone at a very reasonable $7.3K to make sure we have the best scoring options from both Deportivo and Eibar on Sunday.

FLEX: Sidnei, Deportivo

Salary: $3,300

Our final FLEX play is a defender from Deportivo as we continue to spread our money around on the three favorites for Sunday. Sidnei is another very reasonably priced defender option that could easily produce at a higher level than his low price tag would indicate and emerges as an excellent sleeper value play for this weekend’s La Liga fantasy league competitions.
