Lucha Underground S1E11 Recap: Last Luchador Standing

Photo from El Rey Network

On last week’s episode of Lucha Underground, we saw Prince Puma, the first ever Lucha Underground Champion, defend his title against Fenix. Owner and promoter Dario Cueto gave Fenix the opportunity to win the title because he wanted to see Prince Puma get destroyed. However, Fenix failed because Prince Puma won that match. After the match, Cueto still got what he wanted, when Cage, who debuted earlier in the night, attacked Prince Puma from behind and laid him out.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Cortez Castro & Mr. Cisco (w/Bael) vs. Mascarita Sagrada & Pimpinela Escarlata
These teams are perhaps the complete opposite of each other. Cortez Casto and Mr. Cisco are street fighters, who focus on impact and efficiency over flashy moves. Pimpinela Escarlata is one of the most flamboyant wrestlers of all time, and Mascarita Sagrada is one of the best little wrestlers ever.

Castro and Cisco have the numbers advantage with Bael in their corner, and it is increased by the fact that Big Ryck sits in the stands in the middle of the match.

After a blind tag, Mr. Cisco and Cortez Castro hit a flapjack/Codebreaker combo on Mascarita Sagrada for the win. Winners: Cortex Castro and Mr. Cisco

After the match, Big Ryck says that he will go through anyone who gets in his way to get to the Lucha Underground Championship, including his crew. After hearing that, Bael, Castro, and Cisco triple team Big Ryck. The hit him with a kendo stick, and drag a lit cigar across his face to end the beating.

Backstage Segment
After the beating, Cisco, Castro, and Bael head to Cueto’s office. Cueto pays all three of them to have his back.

Super Fly vs. Pentagon Jr.
Pentagon Jr. has not been since since he was eliminated by a betraying Chavo Guerrero, who knock him out of championship contention. Super Fly has not been featured in singles matches as much as Pentagon Jr. has, but has been impressive in the multi-man bouts he has participated in.

Super Fly was focused more on the crowd and being flashy than defeating Pentagon Jr., which didn’t work in his favor. Pentagon Jr. hits Super Fly with a package piledriver for the win. Winner: Pentagon Jr.

After the match, Pentagon Jr. cuts a promo about how he thought Chavo Guerrero was a legend, but turned out to be a fraud, and he is out for revenge.

Sexy Star vs. El Mariachi Loco
Sexy Star has been very impressive throughout the entirety of Lucha Underground, taking it to some of the best male competitors Lucha Undergound has to offer. She has taken on Son of Havoc, Chavo Guerrero, and several others in the Aztec Warfare match for the Lucha Underground Championship. El Mariachi Loco, on the other hand, has pretty much lost every match he has been in.

After a slap and a small package, Sexy Star gets another impressive victory. Winner: Sexy Star

Drago vs. King Cuerno – Last Luchador Standing
The rules of this match are like a typical Last Man Standing match: There are no pinfalls or submissions, and the only way to win is to leave your opponent off of his feet for a count of ten.

Drago and King Cuerno have had a heated rivalry over the last several weeks, and this match might send it off.

King Cuerno ends up tying Drago to the ring post with a rope, preventing him from getting up for the 10 count, ending this episode of Lucha Underground. Winner: King Cuerno
