Lucha Underground S1E20 Recap: Championship Double-Header

Photo from El Rey Network

The last episode of Lucha Underground was probably the biggest episode since Aztec Warfare. The night started off with Aerostar taking on Drago, continuing their “Best of 5” series. Aerostar would win, making him one win away from one of Dario Cueto’s “unique opportunities.” Afterwards, Big Ryck faced The Crew in a 3-on-1 elimination handicap match, which Big Ryck would end up winning after getting some help from Sexy Star. This would help Big Ryck get the revenge he has been waiting for. The most shocking moment of the night, and perhaps the most shocking moment in Lucha Underground history, was Grave Consequences, where Fenix managed to defeat Mil Muertes for a second time by putting him in a coffin.

Tonight’s episode of Lucha Underground features two huge championship matches. Alberto El Patron will defend his AAA Mega Championship against Texano in a Bull Rope match, and Prince Puma will defend the Lucha Underground Championship against “The Machine,” Cage.

This recap is part of a series that is recapping the entirety of Lucha Underground. If you would like to catch up on previous recaps, click here for the recap of the last episode. Currently, Lucha Underground airs Wednesdays on El Rey Network, and is now available on iTunes.

Angélico vs. Son of Havoc (w/Ivelisse)
Over the past couple of weeks, Angélico has taken on both Son of Havoc and Ivelisse, and he has defeated them both. Ivelisse has picked up a win over Angélico, but it was with the help of a kick from Son of Havoc.

Son of Havoc grabs a microphone in the middle of the match, and breaks up with Ivelisse right before hitting a Shooting Star Press on Angélico for only his second win in Lucha Underground. Winner: Son of Havoc

Backstage Segment
Dario Cueto is in his office with the latest signee to Lucha Underground, Hernandez (known for his work in TNA to American audiences). Cueto welcomes Hernandez to The Temple, saying that he doesn’t have to be stuck to a tag team (like he was in TNA).

Alberto El Patron (c) vs. Texano – AAA Mega Championship (Bull Rope Match)
In a Bull Rope match, the rules are just like a normal wrestling match, except for the fact that Alberto El Patron and Texano are connected to each other by an 18 ft bull rope. There are also no disqualifications, and they only ways to win are by pinfall and submission.

This is a feud that has so much intensity in it, that it has gone from AAA all the way to Lucha Underground. Texano even spoiled Alberto El Patron’s first night in Lucha Underground, and these two have been back-and-forth at each other even since.

After getting powerbombed through a table, Alberto El Patron manages to get himself together to lock in an armbreaker over the top rope on Texano for the win. Winner, and STILL AAA Mega Champion (via submission): Alberto El Patron

Cage vs. Prince Puma (c) – Lucha Underground Championship (Boyle Heights Street Fight)
A few weeks ago when Cage debuted, he attacked Prince Puma and his mentor Konnan, as well as tearing apart the Lucha Underground Championship. Before this match starts, Dario Cueto appears from his office to debut the new Lucha Underground Championship title belt.

There are no count-outs or disqualifications in this match, and you can only win by pinfall or submission.

Cage calls out Hernandez, who’s sitting at ringside, and Hernandez provides enough of a distraction for Konnan to hit Cage with hit cane. While Cage is knocked out from Konnan’s cane hit, Prince Puma hits the 630 splash for the win. Winner, and STILL Lucha Underground Champion: Prince Puma
