Ortiz Shot in DR, Encarnacion Hits 400th Homer and More

Douglas DeFelice-USA TODAY Sports

Scary and sad news came from the Dominican Republic on Sunday night, when Red Sox legend David Ortiz was shot in a club and spent the night in the hospital. Thankfully, reports say Ortiz will be OK. On the field, Edwin Encarnacion hit two home runs for the Mariners on Sunday, giving him 400 home runs for his career. Speaking of home runs, the Nationals hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back dingers — that’s four in a row — against the Padres, and Max Muncy hit a long one into the San Francisco bay against Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.

Ortiz is in stable condition but still faces some hurdles in his recovery.

Edwin Encarnacion has had a quietly superb career, and he became just the third active player with 400 home runs.

The Nationals became just the second franchise to hit four consecutive home runs on two different occasions.

Oh, Max Muncy. A splash home run and then some choice words for Madison Bumgarner.

Six of the eight teams in the College World Series are set: Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Louisville, Texas Tech, Florida State and Michigan, which knocked off top-ranked UCLA on Sunday night in the super regionals.
