UFC on FOX 23 Odds For Saturday – This Saturday night the UFC is in Denver, Colorado for the UFC on FOX 23. The main event of the card comes to us in the women’s bantamweight division as Julianna Pena takes on Valentina Shevchenko in a five round match that will likely leave the winner as the number one contender to the UFC title held by Amanda Nunes.
Pena holds an 8-2 overall record, but she has the peculiar characteristic of having entered the UFC on a two fight losing streak. She has made the most of her run on the big show, going 4-0 to put her on the cusp of a title shot. Shevchenko is 2-1 in the UFC and 13-2 overall but she is coming off a five round unanimous decision victory over former champion Holly Holm that raised her stock considerably. In her lone UFC loss, she battled current champion Nunes the full 15 minutes before losing the decision, so she has to feel she is in the neighborhood with the world titlist.
The welterweight co-feature has the potential to be an explosive fight as popular Donald Cerrone (32-7) takes on veteran Jorge Masvidal (31-11) in a fight pitting two of the most experienced fighters on the UFC roster. Cerrone is also one of the UFC’s most active fighters and he went 4-0 in 2016. The last year also saw him move up in weight class successfully as all of his wins have come at welterweight. In his last 13 UFC fights, the “Cowboy” has gone 12-1. Masvidal has put together a two fight winning streak himself, and he is also making a transition to welterweight from the lightweight division. At 8-4 in his UFC career, Masvidal has at times struggled with consistency, especially in letting fights go the distance.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Andre Arlovski (25-13) returns for what may be his last UFC appearance as he takes on Francis N’Gannou. Arlovski title days with the UFC were more than ten years ago, and though his latest UFC run started off with an encouraging four fight winning streak, he has since lost three in a row. N’Gannou is 9-1 overall, a relative novice when compared to Arlovski, but the athletic Frenchman has gone 4-0 in the UFC, winning all of his matches within the distance.
Another fighter trying to extend his UFC career is Nate Marquardt, who is 3-5 in his last eight UFC fights. For this fight he is facing Sam Alvey, and “Smilin’ Sam” is entering the fight on a three fight winning streak that his moved his overall UFC mark to 6-3. Marquardt is from nearby Aurora, Colorado and is fighting at “home” so it is not inconceivable that he retires after a career spanning over 50 fights,whether he wins or losses.
