French Open Odds: Serena Williams is the big favorite to win the 2014 French Open. Serena is the defending champion and she has dominated women’s tennis for many years so it is no surprise to see her listed as the favorite. The question for bettors is whether they want to go against Serena in the French Open. Serena is listed as the 6-5 favorite and there are only two other players listed at single-digit odds with Maria Sharapova at 5-1 and Li Na at 7-1. Let’s look at the event and tennis picks.

Serena Williams Odds

There are a couple of options as you can bet on Serena Williams to win the French Open or you can bet against her. She is 6-5 to win the title while the field is listed at -145. It is hard to argue with the success of Serena as she has dominated women’s tennis for the better part of the last decade. She is also the defending French Open champion. Serena won 11 title in 2013 and she has looked just as good in 2014.

Who Could Upset Serena?

The two players most likely to cause Serena trouble are Li Na who won the Australian Open and Maria Sharapova who won the French Open in 2012 and finished second last year. “I’m feeling pretty good,” Li said recently, “I’m playing some high-quality matches. And I’m feeling pretty loose – I’m just going to do my best out there.” Sharapova has been much better on clay in the past couple of years. “I’ve benefited from that in the last couple of years. I enjoy playing on all surfaces.” Sharapova said, “But I’m really happy about changing my results on clay the last few years.”

It is hard to make a strong case for either Na or Sharapova because when Serena is healthy she wins. Other players really need a Serena injury to contend but the odds on players like Agnieszka Radwanska, Jelena Jankovic, Ana Ivanovic and Simona Halep are high. Halep is one of the most improved players in the world. “Last year I was top 20, now I’m top five so it’s a big difference,” she said. “I’m enjoying this time because it’s the best in my career.”

Tennis Picks

The way Serena is playing this year it is just hard to pick against her so I will take her at odds of 6-5 to win the French Open.
