Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks get their seasons going at Talking Stick Resort Arena. The game can be seen on ESPN at 10:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, October 17, 2018.

Neither team is favored and the Over/Under (O/U) for the game opened at 215 points.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Phoenix Suns Betting Prediction

Dallas failed to reach the playoffs following a 24-58 regular season last season. Phoenix also was unable make the playoffs after a 21-61 regular season.

It will be a showdown of opposite styles as the fast-paced Suns will look to push the slower-paced Mavericks. In the 2017-18 season, the Suns ranked third in possessions per game while the Mavericks were 24th. The Mavericks should have an edge in terms of ball protection. They ranked 2nd at avoiding errors (turnover percentage of 12.0 percent), while the Suns forced the third-fewest turnovers in the league (opponents’ turnover percentage of 12.7 percent).

The Mavericks had records of 24-58 straight up (SU) and 43-38-1 against the spread (ATS) last season. Of Dallas’ 82 games that accepted bets last year, 47 finished under the O/U total.

The Suns, meanwhile, were 21-61 SU and 40-40-2 ATS last season. Contrary to Dallas, Phoenix games went over the O/U total 58.5 percent of the time.

The Suns won all three games against the Mavericks last season. In the last game, Phoenix won 124-97. Phoenix launched 26 three pointers, making 13 of them (50.0 percent). Dallas was, meanwhile, 8-33 (24.2 percent).
