Gunnarsson Wins it in Overtime, Sundqvist Facing a Suspension, and More

The St. Louis Blues have tied the Boston Bruins at one game apiece in the Stanley Cup Finals. These two teams played a very even game last night, but the Blues dominated the overtime period and were rewarded with the win after Carl Gunnarsson fired a slap shot past Tuukka Rask less than four minutes into the extra frame. St. Louis will look to take control of the series at home on Saturday night.

Gunnarsson rung a shot off the post late in the third period, but he struck true early in overtime to give the Blues the win. He was an unlikely hero, as this was his 57th career postseason appearance and his first career playoff goal.

It appears that Oscar Sundqvist will be suspended for Game 3 for his hit on Matt Grzelcyk. This isn’t as cut and dry as other cases that go before the NHL Player Safety board though. Sundqvist started his hit before Grzelcyk’s body moved awkwardly, and the Blues center ended up going high on Grzelcyk as a result.

As for Grzelcyk, he will miss at least Game 3 with a concussion. He is still undergoing tests, and it appears unlikely that he will appear in Game 4 either. The Bruins will miss the defenseman, and they will call upon either John Moore or Steve Kampfer to fill in for Game 3.

New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero has been coy regarding the team’s plans for the No. 1 pick. Jack Hughes and Kaapo Kakko are considered the top two players in the draft, but Shero has not tipped his hand regarding who he prefers.
