After LeBron James’ Sunday-night announcement that he has signed a four-year deal with the Lakers, fans immediately began speculating about Lonzo Ball’s future with the team. It’s natural to wonder whether LeBron will be willing to put up with the Ball Family Circus. Is the best player in the game really going to have the patience for all of LaVar Ball’s antics?

It seemed Lonzo might be on the move after L.A. signed veteran point guard Rajon Rondo Monday. Per a report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, however, LeBron is “excited” to play with Lonzo, the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft.

Indeed, it seems LeBron and Lonzo would fit well together. Lonzo is a pass-first point guard who does all the little things well and doesn’t need the ball in his hands; though LeBron isn’t a traditional point, he likes having the offense run through him. Thus, the basketball relationship could be fruitful.

One noteworthy point, though: Lee Jenkins’ piece inside LeBron’s decision did not mention Lonzo’s name. I’d still be surprised if the Lakers held onto the UCLA product.

Lonzo’s Development

As a rookie, Lonzo played 34.2 minutes per game. He averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game. His shot was a big struggle early in the season, but it gradually improved, and he shot 30.5 percent from downtown when all was said and done.

Lonzo probably wouldn’t go No. 2 if the league re-conducted the 2017 draft today — but he’d still go in the top five. So if the Lakers decide to move him, he should command a decent return from the market.
