Mexico’s senior national soccer team has extended its first call-ups to United States-Mexico dual nationals Richard Ledezma and Brian Gutiérrez for upcoming friendly matches. These fixtures, which fall outside the traditional FIFA international calendar, are set to take place later this month.

Ledezma and Gutiérrez are among the players selected for Mexico’s squad ahead of back-to-back friendlies against Panama on January 22 and Bolivia on January 25. The matches offer an opportunity for head coach Jaime Lozano to evaluate emerging talent and test new combinations without the full roster of Europe-based regulars, many of whom are unavailable due to club commitments during this non-FIFA international window.

Richard Ledezma, a midfielder, has previously represented the United States at youth levels and has spent time playing professionally in both Major League Soccer and the Netherlands. His technical ability and playmaking vision have drawn attention in recent years, and this call-up marks a significant development in his international career.

Brian Gutiérrez, also a midfielder, has been a standout performer for the Chicago Fire in MLS. Known for his creativity and composure under pressure, Gutiérrez has been considered a promising prospect for both the U.S. and Mexico. His inclusion in Mexico’s senior team represents a potential shift in his international allegiance, although FIFA regulations allow players to change affiliations under certain conditions if they haven’t played in competitive senior matches.

The selection of Ledezma and Gutiérrez reflects Mexico’s ongoing strategy to engage players with dual eligibility and broaden the national team’s talent pool. These friendly matches will provide both players with the chance to make an impression and potentially secure further opportunities with the national team in future competitions.

Mexico’s friendlies against Panama and Bolivia will be held in the United States, continuing the team’s long-standing practice of playing international matches on U.S. soil to connect with fans based there and expand its global profile.
