Miocic vs Cormier an Audition for Brock Lesnar? – The UFC heavyweight title is up for grabs on July 7th as UFC 226 brings us Stipe Miocic vs Daniel Cormier. The match is a UFC “superfight” as Cormier (20-1) is the UFC’s light heavyweight champion who is moving up to challenge Miocic, the UFC heavyweight champion with the most title defenses in history.

The UFC 225 PPV on June 9th featured a strong card headlined by the middleweight title rematch between Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero. The final word appears to be that the UFC 225 card scored about 250,000 pay-per-view buys, which shows that the UFC is currently lacking for fighters they an put a big marketing campaign behind.

Miocic is the defending champion and a win for him would make him the most decorated heavyweight champion in history. But, at the end of the day, he is a fireman from Ohio and he is not Conor McGregor when it comes to mic control. A win for Cormier would put him at 21-1 and it would give him title reigns in two weight classes simultaneously. The winner of the UFC 226 main event would have a big head of steam going. UFC matchmakers don’t have another “superfight” already on the roster but that doesn’t mean the UFC doesn’t have a name in mind.

Miocic vs Cormier an Audition for Brock Lesnar?

Lesnar still holds the WWE’s heavyweight championship and he is not currently on the schedule for the WWE’s next PPV, the “Extreme Rules” on July 15th. Since April’s Wrestlemania, Lesnar has been on a short contract but it is still not clear how the WWE will relieve Lesnar of the belt. The UFC doesn’t care about any of that, but they will make a fight for Lesnar anytime he is free of a WWE contract.

Forget the steroid test that led his last UFC fight to be changed to a no contest, and forget about the fact that he is now 40 years old. Lesnar is one of those people that seem to get things their way and it has been known that Lesnar was getting the UFC itch again for a long time.

The obvious match for Lesnar is Jon Jones, the spectacular but flaky former champion who is considered by many the top MMA artist of all-time. Unfortunately for all involved, Jones is still up in the air and he is almost impossible to count on for planning at this point. That leaves the UFC with an itchy Lesnar.

Both Miocic and Cormier are undersized heavyweights, while Lesnar will probably have to cut down in weight to make the UFC’s 265 pound heavyweight limit. Being bigger does not assure Lesnar of success but it does make the match look more appealing and it gives Lesnar hope that he still has the physical tools to do a real fight. A win for Lesnar would make him a 2x UFC heavyweight champion and that would certainly add gloss to his legacy. With Miocic and Cormier meeting very soon, they would likely be ready to fight again towards the end of the year, meaning we may se Lesnar make a bid for the title in the December timeframe.
