Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson Betting: “The Match” Props, Odds and Predictions

Ian Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson made a bet and now we’re going to see how it plays out. “The Match” between the two famous golfers will take place this week with the winner taking home $9 million. The event will take place at 3 p.m. ET on Friday at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, the ideal setting for this intriguing golf spectacle. Woods is a -220 favorite at the “Showdown at Shadow Creek” and Mickelson is priced in at +170, but the oddsmakers at BetDSI Sportsbook have posted a whole array of other bets to wager on to make it even more interesting.

One of the most intriguing aspects of this event is that both Woods and Mickelson will be able to make their own mid-round side bets with their own money. They might wager on if one of the two will make a put or hit a green, and it’s up to them to decide what the bet is and for how much. DSI is expect about a dozen of these as they’ve set the over-under at 12.5:

How many side bets will be made by Tiger and Phil?

Over 12.5

Under 12.5

There’s also some debate as to how lucrative these side bets will be. Might they get into the six or seven figures? The over-under right now is set at $50,000, which is a fairly modest amount for these two stars.

With the match being a Pay-Per-View event, we could see all sorts of things that we don’t see at the typical, formal events. That includes swearing as both golfers are free to cuss as much as they please. BetDSI has posted the over-under of swear words that we’ll hear at 21.5.

While there will be a lot of intrigue worldwide in this first-of-its-kind golf event, it might even attract some celebrities. BetDSI has put the odds of President Donald Trump making an appearance at +600. Of course, the President of the United States might have more important things to do on a Friday afternoon but he does love golf. Woods’ came out with some somewhat supportive comments about the President earlier this year, so maybe Trump shows up to return the support.

In terms of the actual matchup, there’s no question that Woods comes into this contest having played the better golf of late. Mickelson had a fairly pedestrian season with six Top 10’s and one win. He hasn’t placed better than 12th in any of his last 12 events, which includes missing the cut twice. As for Woods, he finished the season with a flurry. He finally earned that elusive win at the Tour Championship and then also had five Top 10’s in his final eight starts.

All of the action gets underway this Friday. Before then, have a look below at the full list of props posted on the board at BetDSI:
