Chiefs News: Patrick Mahomes Ankle Injury More Serious Than Previously Thought

Remember when Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback hurt his ankle late in the loss on Sunday Night Football against the Indianapolis Colts? Next, the Chiefs lost to the Texans at home this past Sunday. While many figured it was just an issue of Mahomes not having all his weapons, or running into a hot Texans team; it could be something more severe.

James Palmer of NFL Network reports that some close to the situation believe this injury is more serious than the Chiefs are letting on. And ‘some’ close to the situation could be members of the Denver Broncos – who will face Mahomes and the Chiefs on Thursday Night Football tonight.

Check out this video:

Here’s what Palmer says about the injury:

“People that know about the injury have (said) it’s probably worse than most people think it is.”

Definitely, I can see that. Perhaps that is why the Chiefs are just three-point favorites tonight against the Broncos; despite coming off an AFC Championship game appearance and being one of the greatest offenses in modern NFL history.

Still, if Mahomes is banged up; you’re not really getting what you paid for if you’re a Chiefs backer. That said, Mahomes can still win a game when hurt like the great ones. Palmer expands upon this. From CBS Sports:

The Broncos are “well aware” of that, Palmer added. And while they believe Mahomes can “probably beat you on one leg,” they also surely know the star signal-caller has seen statistical drop-offs in his last two games.

It’s always interesting to see how theatre like this plays out for us. Personally, I do think something is up with Mahomes’ ankle. When I saw him limping around late in the game two weeks ago, he looked hurt. While I didn’t watch him in action last week, it seems like the Chiefs are just a little more ‘human’ all of the sudden. This would explain why.

Now if the Broncos are able to capitalize on the blood they smell in the water is an entirely different story.
