MLB Betting:  MLB Network will be televising the game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. The Cardinals are battling for the NL Central lead with the Brewers and Pirates while the Orioles are trying to hold off the Blue Jays and Yankees in the AL East. This should be an excellent matchup on Tuesday and, based on the probable pitching match-up, it could be a high scoring game.  Let’s look at the contest and MLB picks.

Probable Pitchers

Justin Masterson should be the starter for the Cardinals on Friday. He somehow got the win in his first start since coming to St. Louis in a trade from Cleveland but didn’t pitch well. He went six innings but he allowed five runs and walked three.  He has allowed at least five runs a total of 10 times this season.  In his last three starts, Masterson is 1-1 with a 10.64 ERA. He has a 6-5 career mark against the Orioles but his ERA is really high at 5.04.

Chris Tillman should be getting the ball for the Orioles. He has been solid this season with an ERA under four. He also has a winning record on the season.

Game Notes

The Cardinals are 28-27 on the road this season. They have struggled to score runs as they are next to last in the league in runs per game but their pitching usually keeps them in games as they are 10th best in team ERA. The Orioles are averaging just over four runs per game this season while allowing 3.7 runs per contest.

Series Notes

These teams don’t meet that often as they have not played since 2011.  It was the Cardinals sweeping the Orioles back in 2011 in Baltimore, winning 6-2, 5-1 and 9-6. That is the only time the teams have ever met in Baltimore.

MLB Picks

The Orioles should have the pitching edge in this contest so we’ll look for Baltimore to win this contest and for the game to go over the MLB betting total.
