NFL News: Is Adam Vinatieri Retiring? Ben Roethlisberger, James Conner Hurt

Vinatieri Colts

It’s been a rough start for Indianapolis Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri’s 24th NFL season and, after an ominous quote heading into the locker room after the team’s 19-17 victory over their AFC South rival, the Tennessee Titans, it might already be over. Not just the season, but the career.

Sunday, Vinatieri missed 2-of-4 extra points. Last week he missed an extra point and two field goals. When stopped by a reporter after the game, Vinatieri gave this cryptic quote.

If Vinatieri does call it a career, he should be the first kicker to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He kicked two Super Bowl-winning field goals and was the margin of victory in three Super Bowls. He’s hit 97.8 percent of his extra points and 84.1 percent of his field goals. He converted 583 field goals and 853 extra points for a combined career scoring total of 2,602 points.

Roethlisberger and Conner injured against Seahawks

An elbow injury against the Seattle Seahawks ended quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s day early and all but doomed the team to fall in their second straight game.

When he went to the locker room, he was 8-of-15 for 75 yards. His back up, Mason Rudolph, actually played well in relief. He was 12-of-19 for 112 yards, two touchdowns and in interceptions.

In the fourth quarter, running back James Conner left the game with an apparent knee injury. He had carried the ball 11 times for 33 yards and a score.

Pittsburgh would go on to lose the game 28-26.

As of this writing, there’s no word of the extent of either man’s injury.

Linebacker Vince Williams also left the game with an apparent hamstring injury. Sean Davis injured his shoulder.

Other Injuries

The San Francisco 49ers lost offensive tackle Joe Staley to a leg injury against the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s suspected that Staley suffered a broken fibula.

New England Patriots offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn injured his foot against the Miami Dolphins and did not return.
