Sweat Misdiagnosed? Jaguars Use Option on Ramsey and More

Melina Vastola-USA TODAY Sports

Was Montez Sweat misdiagnosed with a heart condition at the NFL Combine? That could be the case and, if so, could reshape some draft boards for tonight’s annual selection show. Sweat, a 6-6, 245 pound defensive end recorded 53 tackles, 14.5 for a loss, one forced fumble and 12 sacks for Mississippi State last season.

Jags pick up Ramsey’s fifth-year option

The easy personnel moves keep on coming. The Jacksonville Jaguars have elected to pick up cornerback Jalen Ramsey’s fifth-year rookie option as they work on a long-term extension for the Pro Bowl defender. Ramsey recorded 65 tackles, two for a loss, three interceptions and 13 passes defended in 2018.

Eagles re-sign Timmy Jernigan

The Philadelphia Eagles and defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan are sticking together after reaching an agreement on a one-year contract Thursday. Philadelphia did not pick up Jernigan’s fifth-year rookie option, but obviously still liked what they got out of the former first round pick of the Baltimore Ravens. Last season Jernigan appeared in just three games due to a back injury. The season before, he recorded 29 tackles, 2.5 sacks and nine tackles for a loss.

NFL delivers warning to Jaguars’ Coughlin

Jacksonville Jaguars executive vice president Tom Coughlin has received a warning from the NFL for publicly criticizing players like Jalen Ramsey and Telvin Smith for skipping voluntary team workouts in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement with the NFLPA.
