Dodgers’ Ryu Extends Streak, Astros’ Springer Hurt and More

David Kohl-USA TODAY Sports

An incredible statistic as the Major League Baseball season starts to mature: It’s been more than three full games since Hyun-Jin Ryu allowed a run for the Dodgers. Elsewhere, the Astros’ George Springer, perhaps the early front-runner for AL MVP, left Houston’s game in Boston with back stiffness. The Cubs dropped their protest of their Saturday loss to the Nationals, and the Mets’ situation remains a mess on all fronts.

No spoilers here, but the last time Hyun-Jin Ryu gave up a run, a lot of people who are dead on Game of Thrones were still alive.

Hopefully this injury is nothing serious for George Springer, who’s been spectacular for the Astros thus far.

The Cubs’ protest of their Saturday loss to the Nationals over Sean Doolittle’s delivery was a long shot to begin with. Now the protest no longer exists.

Oh, the Mets. New York manager Mickey Callaway is in serious trouble after the lowly Marlins swept the Mets this weekend, sending New York further into a tailspin.

Callaway’s tough spot is made tougher by Robinson Cano’s lack of hustle on a double-play ground ball the other day. But the manager continues to defend his star second baseman.
