MLB Picks: New York Yankees Favored to Win on Wednesday Night as they host the Boston Red Sox on ESPN

MLB Betting:  AL East rivals meet on Wednesday night as the Boston Red Sox visit the New York Yankees.  The game is far more important to the Yankees who are still in the Wild Card race than to the Red Sox who are out of contention.  That doesn’t mean the Red Sox wouldn’t like to hurt their big rivals and keep them out of the playoffs.  Here is a look at this game on ESPN and MLB picks.

Red Sox Better on the Road

It sounds strange to even say this, but the Boston Red Sox have been better on the road than at home this season. They have been awful at Fenway Park this season going 29-40. They don’t have a winning record on the road but at least they have been competitive.  They were 29-35 in their first 64 road contests.  The team is not hitting this season as they are just 24th in runs scored and they are just slightly better in pitching as they rank 22nd in team ERA.

Yankees Trying to Stay Alive in AL Race

The Yankees are extremely unlikely to win the AL East and they will almost assuredly not get the first Wild Card so the only chance they have is to get the second Wild Card. They are in a race with the Seattle Mariners and the loser of the AL Central, either the Detroit Tigers or Kansas City Royals.  The Yankees are fortunate to even be in the race as they have been outscored overall this season and their overall stats are poor. This is a team that is 17th in runs scored per game and 19th in team ERA.

Series Notes

Before this series started on Tuesday it was the Yankees who had won six of the last ten. Three of the last four games had gone over the total. The teams had split their last ten meetings in New York with three of the last four going under. They met back in late June for three games in New York and it was the Red Sox taking two of three.

MLB Picks

The Red Sox don’t have any pitchers that really strike fear into opposing lineups so the Yankees should be able to get enough offense to win this game on Wednesday night.
