MLB Betting:  The Tampa Bay Rays visit the New York Yankees on Thursday on MLB Network.  It should be a good pitcher’s duel as Alex Cobb is expected to get the start for the Rays while the Yankees go with Michael Pineda.  Both pitchers come into this game with earned run averages of less than three.

Probable Pitchers – Cobb vs. Pineda

Alex Cobb has been outstanding this season with an ERA of 2.83.  His overall record is just 9-7 because the offense doesn’t always give him much run support. Cobb threw seven scoreless innings last time out against Baltimore. It was his 11th straight start allowing two runs or less which is a team record.  Cobb beat the Yankees earlier this season as he allowed no runs in 7.1 innings.  Cobb has a 1.56 ERA in his last three starts overall but because of his lack of run support his record is 0-1 in those contests.  Cobb is 5-1 in his career against the Yankees with a 1.75 ERA.

Michael Pineda has been very good for the Yankees this season but like Cobb, he hasn’t gotten much run support.  He is 3-4 on the season but his ERA is 1.80.  He didn’t even allow an earned run last time out but he still got stuck with a loss.  He has allowed two earned runs or less in all 9 of his starts this season.  In his last three starts, Pineda is 1-2 with a 1.40 ERA. He has thrown 12.1 innings in his career against the Rays with a 1-0 record and a 2.19 ERA.

Series Notes

The Rays have won six of the last 10 in this series with the last three going under. The Rays have done really well in NY, winning eight of the last 10 with three of the last four going under.

MLB Predictions

Both of these teams have struggled to score runs and the pitching matchup is a good one so we’ll look for this contest to go under.
