Upward Trending College Coaches Check In

Back in October, we took a look at five upward trending college basketball coaches to keep an eye on if any elite mid-majors or high-major jobs opened up following the season. If our Hot Seat is any indication, that will be happening at a few spots throughout the country.

But with the season entering its final third, we figured it was time to check back in on these college basketball coaches who tend to trend to see how they’re doing.

Archie Miller, Dayton

The Flyers are contending for the A10 title, just like they should be. They lost to La Salle early in conference play–that is still La Salle’s only A10 win–but have since gone on to win eight in a row and currently sit just .5 games behind VCU in the conference standings. With an RPI in the top 20, the Flyers once again look like a team no one will want to face come the NCAA Tournament. Miller remains one of the top names in the coaching business.

Andrew Toole, Robert Morris

Things aren’t going so hot for the Colonials this season. They’re 6-17 overall, 4-6 NEC and don’t look like much of a threat to come out of their conference tournament. Seasons like this happen for coaches at these levels, but it’s enough to take some of the wind out of Toole’s sails for making the jump to a higher level.

Tim Cluess, Iona

The Gaels always play a tough non-conference with this season being no different, though they came out of it sitting at 3-6. Since conference play has started, they’ve rattled off a 9-3 record and are just one game behind Monmouth for the conference lead. Cluess remains a hot name on the eastern seaboard, the question is whether any attractive jobs in this region will be up for grabs.

Greg Lansing, Indiana State

The Sycamores have been hit and miss all year in a MVC that seems up for grabs behind Wichita State. They’re just one half game behind second place but the buzz has been turned way down around Lansing’s name nationally.

Travis DeCuire, Montana

An early season win against Boise State, followed by a competitive game with Gonzaga, got the ball rolling for the Grizzlies and their second year coach. In the Big Sky, they’re sitting in first place and trying to fight off Weber State at the moment. DeCuire is a name to keep an eye on because his stock continue to rise.

Somewhere between psychotic and iconic, William finds refuge in the sound of a leather ball bouncing on a wooden floor, preferably with a Burgundy in hand.
