Carolina Moves On, Dallas Moves Up, and More

The Carolina Hurricanes are off to the Eastern Conference Finals. It’s been a wild turnaround for the Hurricanes, and they are the hottest team in the playoffs outside of St. Louis. They are going to be a tough out for either Boston or Columbus, and the Hurricanes will have the benefit of extra rest.

Carolina swept the Islanders in four games, with the Hurricanes beating the Isles 5-2 in both games in Raleigh. Teuvo Teravainen and Sebastian Aho continued their postseason dominance as each notched a goal in the win, but the defense was again the story. Despite the Islanders’ best efforts, they scored just five goals in four games.

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news for Carolina. Trevor van Riemsdyk underwent shoulder surgery, and he will be out until next season. He was injured in Game 2 of the series and the defenseman will be missed.

The Dallas Stars are looking to win their second Stanley Cup ever, and they took a big step towards that goal on Friday night. Ben Bishop was excellent and stopped 38 shots in a win over St. Louis. Dallas can move on to the Western Conference Finals with a victory in Game 6 on Sunday.

Hockey players are a different breed. Despite suffering a head injury in Game 7 of the last series, San Jose’s Joe Pavelski may return to the team soon. Pavelski is recovering and he won’t play in Game 5, but he could take the ice again in Game 6.

The AHL’S San Diego Gulls played a four overtime game to kick off their playoff series with the Bakersfield Condors on Friday night. The Gulls eventually managed to win 3-2, sending their fans home with a smile on their faces.
